atara-mono, KURAWANKA bowl

¥3,000

The “Kurawanka Bowl” is a sturdy, thick-walled bowl with a wide, deep base that is easy to hold and stable.
It can be used as a rice bowl or a small bowl for cooking. It is a practical bowl in various aspects, with the advantage that it is thick enough to keep rice and food from getting cold.
The base of the bowl is finished in the image of the slightly grayish color and atmosphere of the compliant bottles that were used to be made in the past, giving the bowl a nostalgic and calm color tone.

These thick-walled, low center-of-gravity bowls were used on the boats that sold food and beverages to large ships on the Yodo River and other rivers during the Edo period. The boats were also called “kurawanka boats” because they sold their products while calling out “kurawanka” to the passengers of the large boats, and the bowls used on these boats came to be called “kurawanka bowls”. This “Atara-mono Kurawanka Bowl” was also produced as Hasami-yaki in Hasami-cho, Nagasaki Prefecture, one of the production centers from that time, and was redesigned as a bowl that is loved in the same way as the miscellaneous daily utensils used by the common people from the Edo period.
