There has been places making tatami mat brooms, but it was Shirokiya Nakamura Denbei shop that first made it under the name of “Edo broom”. Established in Ginza in the first year of Tenpo era, it then moved to the town of merchants, Kyobashi. It has been making these brooms since the end of Edo.
The Edo broom, made of broomcorn, is suitable for tatami mats. It was born as an Edo-style broom that is perfect for life in tenement houses. It is soft to the touch with some springiness, allowing you to easily clean up smoothly without putting any effort.
