Hi Cup & Saucer
The "high cup & saucer" cup is fired top down and is the general method of production. This gives a glaze at the opening, but not at the base.
There are three types of cup and saucer sets.
From the left, "Demitasse Cup & Saucer," "Cup & Saucer" and "High Cup and Saucer."
The thickness of the cup's rim (mouth) depends on the type of cup. In addition, the bend along the rim will differ from cup to cup.
- The characteristics of the product can result in slight differences in size, shape (distortion), color, and glaze, etc. Small pinholes and/or black spots may also be visible.
- Due to the nature of this product, "scratches" along the unglazed surface or "abrasions" from where the cup rested while being baked may be present.
- If you already own a product in the same series, the color of the delivered product may differ from the one you have.
Concerning difference related to the different cups:
In order to reduce the distortion of the thin cup in "Cup & Saucer," it is placed in the kiln and baked wih the rim facing down. As a result, the rim is unglazed and is shaved and smoothened after it has been removed from the kiln.
The cups in "High Cup & Saucer" and "Demitasse Cup & Saucer" are baked with the bottoms down, per the usual method, so while the rim is blazed, the bottoms of the cup are unglazed.
About the thickness of the rims on the different cups:
The rim on the "Cup & Saucer" cup is thin, while the rims for "High Cup & Saucer" and "Demitasse Cup & Saucer" are a bit thicker.
