An Arita porcelain bowl made with a soft edges and colors.

Kirsty Van Note; a Dutch designer who started researching materials when she participated in this project, focused on ‘beige to black pottery clay’ rather than white – the usually used clay for Arita porcelain. This enables her designs to have beautiful colors derived from nature. This magnificent series comprises of simple shapes that emphasize their unique color and texture.

  • The 120 size is useable as a soup or dessert bowl, while the 190 size is great for salads, as a serving dish for everyday cooking, or as a kitchen bowl for various dressed foods.(Image:Bowl 190)

  • The thickness is 3mm, which also makes for a comparatively light weight.(Image:Bowl 120)

  • This piece is glazed on the upper surface, but left natural on the bottom.
    Beautiful ‘unevenness’ or ‘brown marks’ may occur on the surface of these magnificent pieces when in the kiln due to the fact the ceramic clay used contains a substantial amount of iron.

  • This series is primarily focussed around the concept of ‘pursuing natural colors and beauty’, such as those produced when refining ceramic clay and/or natural raw materials. Each piece is unique and its color and evenness may vary slightly from the others thanks to the unique elements of the raw material used.
  • Note there may be minute amounts of iron powder, pinholes, and/or fine protrusions on the surface of the piece depending on the material used.
